General Lighting
This is the lighting required for daily activities and must be fit for purpose - where businesses are concerned Health & Safety requirements often require that this meets a minimum level of illumination. Contrarily, personal/private lighting installations are often subject to maximum levels of illumination to reduce environmental impact and lux spillage. Further, limitations on power consumption may also be imposed to ensure that lighting operates in an energy efficient manner.
Emergency Lighting
Where high-risk activities are concerned, or there is a duty of care for employees, Emergency Lighting is typically an insurance requirement. In the event of a power outage, Emergency Lighting provides sufficient illumination to Escape Routes and Emergency Exits allowing personnel to vacate safely.
Design Practices
By default, our designs follow guidance as stipulated by CIBSE Recommended Lux Levels - CIBSE advise particular levels of illumination for based on the intended activity and usage of the project area. For certain applications, such as Sports Lighting, recognised professional bodies (FIFA, FA, LTA) often advise illumination levels based on league requirements.
